History of the Male Usher Board
“For a day in the courts is better than a thousand, I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness”
For several years Sister Minnie Lee Hayward saw a need for more men on the Senior Usher Board. After talking with several men of the church it was suggested by Sister Ann Bryant to organize a Male Usher Board of the Beulah Baptist Church.
A meeting was held at the church on April 6, 1993 at 7:30 p.m. Present at the meeting were: Brothers Harold Thomas, Arthur Lee Anderson, Bruce Bryant, Sam Brown, Derik Bryant, Horace Frazier, Robert Brown, and Sisters Minnie Lee Hayward and Ann Bryant.
The meeting was open with a hymn and prayer by Sister Ann Bryant. It was explained to the men the purpose of the meeting. Sister Minnie Lee Hayward explained the duties of an usher. It was agreed by all present to organize a Male Usher Board of the Beulah Baptist Church.
The newly organized usher board elected officers. The following officers were: President Harold Thomas, Vice President Derik Bryant, Secretary Horace Frazier and Treasurer Robert Brown.
The present officers are: President Harold Thomas, Vice President Derik Bryant, Secretary Joseph White and Treasurer Robert Brown.
Other members who have served are: Brothers Horace Frazier, Billy Roy Freeman, Willis Joyner, and Bruce Brown.
The present members are: Brothers Arthur Lee Anderson, Kenneth Brown, Robert Brown, Sam Brown, Derik Bryant, Bruce Bryant, David Burnett, Ronald Graham, Curtis Toombs, Joseph White, Henry Whitfield, Willie West and Thomas Harvey.
We have been busy over the past years working for the Lord. On Thanksgiving we help provide Thanksgiving dinner to all we knew that were in need. During Christmas we gave out fruit baskets. We have donated money to families. We have made presentations to all mothers and fathers during morning worship service on Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day. The Male Usher Board took the responsibility of having a Father’s day Program each year.
In every organization there are ups and downs, trials and tribulations and our organization is no different. But through the help of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the guidance of our pastor Minister Veon Williams we have come this far by faith. We ask that you continue to pray that we grow stronger in Grace and in the Knowledge of Jesus Christ.
